MAKING OF A MILITANT
SHERFUN NISA narrates story of the slain militant from juvenile home to graveyard
Tens and Thousands of mourners on Wednesday attended the funeral procession of Tawseef Ahmad Wagay who was killed on Tuesday in a day long gunfight at Chadoora Area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam District at his ancestral village Kanjikulla Yaripora of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Wagay’s family alleged that Tawseef was only 14 when he was detained for three years, after Yaripora police “alleged” him for the murder case of a policeman in 2012, where he was “brutally tortured” in the custody.
They claimed, “it was the brutality which forced Tawseef to join militant ranks of local outfit Hizbul Mujahideen on October 05, 2016”.
Irshad Ahmad Wagay (Tawseef’s elder brother) said, when his brother came back from the juvenile home he was half dead, “Security forces had pierced iron nails in his body, which made sores in his thighs”. He further added, after six months of his release he complained about the pain in his thigh, after visualizing x-ray reports a nail was found in his thigh that was inserted during his detention by “Special Operations Group (SOG) Kulgam”.
During detention, his head was hit badly by something due to which he complained of frequent headaches. The doctor recommended surgery in his head, but on his denial doctors prescribed a proper course of treatment for his injury,” said Nayeema (sister of slain).
“After the release a wave of fear could be seen on my brother’s face whenever he used to show us wounds and scars on his body, he was literally suffering from ‘Policephobia’,” said Irshad. Adding also that his family feels proud and happy for their son, “who has attained his hereafter so greatly, which is an honour for us”.
Meanwhile valleywide shutdown and protests were observed which disrupted the normal life due to strike given by joint separatist leaders against the killing of slain militant and three other civilians, who were killed during an encounter at Chadoora area of district Budgam on Tuesday.
